This past weekend, TMI staff led the first of two stream education workshops at Pipestem Resort State Park in southern West Virginia.
Eight teachers, mostly from southern West Virginia and the Ohio Valley, joined us at Brush Creek to test the water's chemical integrity, assess its biodiversity, and hike to Brush Creek Falls to explore the geomorphology of area.
The teachers were there to pick up ideas about how to manage stream-based outdoor education lessons for their students to enhance the classroom experience. The workshop was broad - attending teachers work with students ranging from preschool to high school.
The workshop was part of a series coordinated by the West Virginia Geographic Alliance (WVGA). The WVGA, based at Concord University, works to promote geographic education in K-12 curriculum in the state.
